The purpose of this text is to present, through a bibliographical review, the influence of the didactic work instruments in Brazilian education. In this sense, it is necessary to make a historical return in order to understand the determinants of the schooling process of the masses, which is one of the central points of the debate on research in education and are determinant of the concrete conditions in which the actions and the social clashes that permeate education. We believe that educational policies in Brazil have always been linked to the historical form of hegemonic didactic organization during the twentieth century. Ultimately, we can say that its structuring has been shaped by national and international economic and political interests, determinants of the possibilities and purposes of education due to the demands of the capitalist world, and the didactic manuals were the great lever that made this process viable.
