This article has as general objective to contribute to the reflection and discussion of the identity and performance of the Pedagogical Coordinator in the Basic Education schools in Brazil, starting from its historical bias and the delineation of democratic management through the evolution of knowledge and its constitution processes, discussing aspects of the role of the pedagogical coordinator. Discussing the role of the pedagogical coordinator and his / her current role is a challenge because the Pedagogical Coordinator’s objective and activity is to be a mediator, facilitating the teaching and learning process, which involves multiple articulations in the school day-to-day.
