General Tourism Law in Brazil
Amendment projects and reflections for the tourism sector

The Tourism General Law, Law n. 11.771/2008, is the Brazilian most important normative of tourism. Two amendment projects (n. 641/2011 and n. 2.724/2015) propose changes to the norm and organization of national tourism. In order to characterize the Tourism General Law and the amendment projects, the study engages on descriptive research of the General Law, the projects and their justifications. The project n. 641/2011 seeks to punish accommodation facilities that do not implement the daily period, while project n. 2.724/2015 is an instrument that strengthens the relationship between public and private sectors to promote advantages to the tourism business sector. It is argued the need to expand the utilitarian and economic understanding of tourism, which brings the activity closer to the interests of the private sector.
