In Brazil, effectively, the elderly arose as a priority for the Public Health Policies only in 2006 in the Pact for Life, which also brought the National Health Policy for the Elderly (Política Nacional de Saúde da Pessoa Idosa - PNSI). Only at this time, the concept of Active Ageing was incorporated; it was launched in 2002 by the World Health Organization, with the intention of gaining a positive view of this process, promoting longer life, which must be accompanied by continuing opportunities for health, participation and security of the elderly. It makes it possible, therefore, to people realize their potential for physical, social and mental well-being throughout life. Besides allowing the autonomy gain, independence and health in its broadest sense, throughout the aging process. Following it, other actions came in an attempt to put into practice this concept and for the most dependent elderly to involve the family in care. Many challenges remain towards the preparation and guidance of the elderly and their families for healthy aging, with autonomy and quality of life.
