Richard...embodying subalternity in the streets of Quito: An ethnography of internal migration and violence in the twenty- first century Ecuador

Abstract

In this article I analyze the life story of Richard, a young Afro who migrated to the city of Quito-Ecuador to escape the violence and poverty that lived in the province of Esmeraldas. I also describe the circumstances that shaped their migration by summarizing their personal, economic and urban history, emphasizing mainly on multiple survival strategies that he had to face to get a medium economic stability. The main objective of this paper is to describe the history and daily life of suffering, subordination and structural violence embodied in a young migrant Afro.
