Abstract

Hospital school attendance allows hospitalized children to experience and reconnect with the school, as well as being able to interact with the teachers and other hospitalized patients, minimizing the impact of hospitalization. This study analyzes the advances of care under the eyes of the children participating in the extension project Study, a healthy action developed at the University Hospital of the Federal University of Maranhão. The theoretical methodological support was based on the literature, based on authors such as, Fonseca (2008), Carvalho (2008) and legal devices such as ECA (1990) and Hospital Class and Home Care (BRASIL, 2002), among others. Data collection involved participant observation, semi-structured interviews and image analysis, and as subjects, the hospitalized children. The results indicated that the participation of the children in this project showed a different perception of hospitalization, since the hospital space becomes similar to a school environment, involving pedagogic activities, becoming rich and stimulating for child evelopment, creating an adaptation to the hospital environment minimizing the traumatic effects of hospitalization.
