Brief considerations on the end of slavery and the black’s right to housing

Abstract

This article intends to analyze the issue of freed blacks, from the land properties that migrated to urban regions, in the period between the end of the monarchy with of the law that abolition and the first years of the republic, bringing to discussion the precarious sub-conditions communities in which they have housed, which are tenement houses and hovels, the only rooms they have left. It also enters into the question of urban real estate exploitation, often disguised as a health appeal, which had the unique power of removing the poor population, mostly blacks. Finally, it brings to the discussion racial discrimination, perpetrated, even by the public authorities, through the police.
