The Protests that spread all over Brazil that started in 2013 show us the main role played by youngsters in political protests nowadays. Given this leading role assumed by them, polemic statements made by Brazil’s president-elect, Jair Bolsonaro (PSL), regarding child labor escalated in debates on what is the meaning of youth, putting under suspicion parameters and guidelines of child and youth protection policies in Brazil. Those statements rekindle the debate on the relationship between youth and the world of work in periphery countries. This scholarly paper aims to analyze how the relationship between youth and the world of work takes place, in which, especially in periphery countries, it can be observed that it is closely linked to the precarization of the world of work, considering, thus, the importance of the role of Human and Social Sciences for the protection of children and youth through education.
