The article deals with Brazilian education as a development process in a context of neoliberal management. During the discussion, the text will address Brazilian economic development and relate to educational public policies in the last thirty years. The objective is to analyze the model adopted and its impact on public education. The methodological approach is qualitative in nature and for theoretical support, the text is based on authors such as Freitas (2021), Santos (2000, 2009, 2014) and Sousa (2021). The result of the discussions conducted in the research allows us to conclude that in the last 30 years, despite the model of economic development, there were some achievements that favored public education, but advances are threatened due to the setback experienced in Brazilian politics after 2016.
