Abstract

In the context of Latin American countries, the racial matter is constitutive. The complexity and dimension of the discussions that fall on this subject matter are gaining a lot of visibility in the Latin American scenario, not only in the most current context, but also in the precursor bases. Therefore, discussing who were/are the thinkers who engaged efforts to reflect the unfolding of the continent's racial elements becomes relevant, such as the Peruvian Marxist José Carlos Mariátegui. For this purpose, we start from the hypothesis that this author elucidates important issues related to race above all, when he focuses on the transition from the national to the international. That is why this article will systematically promote through a literature review, the debate about the contributions of ethnic-racial compositions and the specific traits of Latin American surrounding regions. Furthermore, afterwards it will focus specifically on Mariátegui's writings and understandings, with the aim of comprehend how the author visualized the issue of race in the Peruvian scene and later how he allocates this matter to a large arena when handle this in an international way in Latin America.
