Crisis in the Western World?

Abstract

It is with great pleasure that we continue our work and present to the reader another publication from Revista Aurora. The Dossier Section of this issue presents the thought-provoking theme “Crisis of the Western World?” which is structured around the following works: a) Think Tanks and the Strategic Debate on Emerging Countries: The CFR, the Liberal Order and Putin's Russia, by Augusto César Dall'Agnol, Master's Student of the Postgraduate Program in International Strategic Studies at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (PPGEEI/UFRGS); b) The Rise of the BRICS as a Pole of Power in the Architecture of the International Financial System Post-Subprime Crisis, by Patrícia Nasser de Carvalho, PhD in International Political Economy from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and Adjunct Professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), co-authored by Elis Virginia da Silva Santana, Student of International Economic Relations at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG); c) El Proceso de Overación del Conflicto entre Ecuador y Peru de 1995, by Cristian Daniel Valdivieso, master's student of the San Tiago Dantas Postgraduate Program in International Relations (UNESP-UNICAMP-PUC/SP), co-authored by Edwin Bladimir Aldana, Graduated in International Relations and Integration from the Federal University of Latin American Integration (UNILA); d) Countries of Recent Industrialization and Underdevelopment: a Dialogue between the Thoughts of Celso Furtadoe and Ha-Joon Chang, by Simone Rui Martins da Cruz, Master's Student in Social Sciences from the Postgraduate Program in Social Sciences at UNESP (FFC-Marília) ; e) Reflections on Biopolitics, Violence and Terrorism, by Letícia dos Santos Colombo, Master's student in Social Sciences from the Postgraduate Program in Social Sciences at UNESP (FFC-Marília); f) Considerations on China's Participation in United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, by Gustavo. Erler Pedrozo, PhD in International Relations and Development from the Postgraduate Program in Social Sciences at UNESP (FFC-Marília); g) Knowledge and the construction of threats: reflections on the sociopolitical impacts of the “normative dilemma” of security, by Clarissa Nascimento Forner, PhD student in International Relations at PPGRI San Tiago Dantas (UNESP-UNICAMP-PUC-SP). In the Miscellaneous Section, the published articles cover various themes and reflections on different social phenomena in the Human Sciences, containing the following contributions: a) The Inevitability of Gradualism” and the Historical Role of the British Labor Party: Fabianism, Corporatism and Social Welfare in Post-1945, by Thiago Romão de Alencar, Master in Social History from the Fluminense Federal University (UFF); b) Notes on the Sociometabolic System of Capital in István Mészáros, by Danielle Cristine Ribeiro, PhD student in Social Sciences at the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP - FFC/Marília). Finally, our Special Section is pleased to have the contribution, Montesquieu and Despotic Power, by Professor Dr. Marcos Tadeu Del Roio, Full Professor in Political Sciences at the Faculty of Philosophy and Sciences of UNESP (FFC-Marília), coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Social Sciences at the same faculty and president of the Astrojildo Pereira Institute and the International Gramsci Society “Brazil”.
