Abstract
Translated into Portuguese by Maria Lúcia Pereira and published by Editora Papirus/Campinas (SP), in 2012, the work by Marc Augé, professor at the École des Hautes Études en Science Sociales, brings to the Brazilian public an intriguing reflection on the role of those places where we remain in transit, waiting or just passing through. Non-places are consolidated in supermodern contemporaneity and tend to exert a kind of dissolving effect on the way in which we relate to or think about our identity and represent it.
