The population theories of Malthus and Marx are diametrically opposed. In the first, idealistic, population dynamics are subjectively determined and its determinants are of an individual and mainly moral nature. In the second, materialist, the dynamics depend on the elements of the objective historical process: the class struggle, labor productivity, the organic composition of capital, capital accumulation, and its contradictions.
