Abstract

This article aims to reflect on three distinct and interconnected thematic axes: the COVID-19 pandemic, the government's action manifested in the implementation of emergency public policies, and the background of structural racism and necropolitics as factors that guide the way how the State manages the health crisis. First, this work presents a brief overview of the pandemic and some reflections from the social sciences about it. Then, we discuss the way the Brazilian State faced the public health emergency, analyzing its investments and actions. Finally, the articulation between structural racism and necropolitics allow us to understand how the scenario created by the coronavirus aggravated the condition of social vulnerability
