The association between capitalist forms and pre-capitalist forms of production, during the formation processo of the Brazilian working class, brings us elements to deepen the critical reflections about the debate around racism. In this direction, the article discusses some fundamentals of capitalist society, relating them to the formation of the working class in Brazil and its coexistence with slavery, aiming to discuss the legacy left by slavery to the Brazilian working class. In the face of evidence of maintaining a generational cycle of poverty among the black population, the hypothesis is raised that the greatest lagacy left by slavery in Brazilian society is the subordination of internal race to class struggle.
