The purpose of this article is to tell a little about the history of the creation of higher technology courses in Brazil, bringing some of the main motivations for the emergence of this modality. We also present, based on the latest sense of higher education (2018), data that point to the growth in the number of enrollments in technology courses offered by private educational institutions, as well as in courses offered in distance learning (distance learning).
