This work reflects on Antonio Gramsci’s contributions for the analysis of the directions produced by the policies implemented for the Youth and Adult Education (EJA). Based on dialectical historical materialism, the text discusses on the struggle for hegemony waged within the Expanded State for the control of the educational policies for the working class, considering the segment of the rural EJA. It concludes that EJA policies, which are historically marked by compensatory discontinuous educational policies, fall within what Gramsci coined as small politics.
