Abstract

This article seeks to identify, from a literature review, the contributions of Mariátegui's thought on the indigenous question in order to understand in what way the joining of Marxism with indigenism, as well as the recognition of indigenous claims to land, has the potential to strengthen the Marxist production in Latin America on the revolutionary struggle against capital. To this end, this article will discuss how Mariátegui approaches the reality of the Indian problem from the national and the international, identifying how the interaction between these implies the need to think Marxism from the specificities of the country in question. It also intends to address how materialist analysis and socialist critique uncovers and clarifies the Indian problem, thus identifying its social-political-economic roots, thus becoming fundamental to a deep understanding of it, thus going beyond the shallow interpretation that rests on the solution of the Indian problem in a humanitarian or philanthropic formula. And finally, to discuss the question of race in Latin America as a fundamental axis for Marxist analysis and for the proletarian struggle in the region.
