Abstract

Based on an analysis of the history of ideas, this essay aims to investigate the similarities and distances between Pan-Africanism and Marxism in contemporary African intellectual thought. For that, it points out essential continuities and discontinuities of this relationship, from the investigation of intellectual trajectories and specific historical contexts. Finally, it reflects on the possible relevance of such critical traditions, taking into account the analysis previously established.

  • Muryatan S. Barbosa , Universidade Federal do ABC

    Historian and sociologist from the University of São Paulo (USP). He is currently an adjunct professor at the Federal University of ABC (UFABC), where he teaches the Bachelor of Science and Humanities, the Bachelor of International Relations and the Postgraduate Program in World Political Economy. He is the author of the books, “Guerreiro Ramos and black personalism” (2015) and “African reason: a brief history of contemporary African thought” (2020).
