The purpose of this article will be to understand the diversity of two groups from the Universidade Popular (UP) collective, active between 2007 and 2015 in the state of São Paulo. For this, we use files, photos, interviews, and academic texts written by the members themselves. We focus on the divergent militancy orientations of young university students from the UP collective, with different educational methodologies: on the one hand, Freirean popular education, on the other hand, non-Freirean Marxist orientations. The differences in terms of educational methodology are also linked to concrete analyzes of the reality of the years 2010-2011, especially with regard to the Workers' Party (PT) government and the struggle strategies of the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST).
