This article, organized into three blocks, presents the productions of the study by the group named ‘Lute’in portuguese, that is the acronym of Social Struggles, Work and Education, linked to the Centre for Human Sciences and Education (Faed/Udesc), which is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2024. The nine pieces of research presented, anchored in the perspective of historical-dialectical materialism, by appropriating Antonio Gramsci's categorical repertoire, including the integral state, private apparatuses of hegemony and organic intellectuals, to think about educational policies in Brazil, Latin America and Africa, contribute to overcoming the simplistic and linear divide of “public versus private”, resizing it from the perspective of totality.
