This article presents partial results of an ongoing study that aims to verify whether the process of self-education of workers and the formative practices carried out by the Incubator of Popular Cooperatives of Unesp Assis contribute to the promotion of gender equality in a cooperative of collectors of recyclable materials in Oeste Paulista. We consider that Solidarity Economic Enterprises are pedagogical places, since in them, subjects produce and share various knowledge in order to create instruments that support the associated work. However, due to the precariousness of the work and the social and economic conditions of the workers, they demand other formative experiences, which in the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, became difficult. The guiding hypothesis of the research is that, although with limits and contradictions, the self-education and the formative practices contribute to the establishment of more egalitarian gender relations. To carry out this investigation, we are using bibliographic research, documental research and empirical research as methodological procedures. We identified potentialities regarding the construction of a critical awareness of the workers about the existing gender relations in the place. However, we observed a high workload for women.
