Representation of information in art faces a problem, the lack of depth in descriptions. The present study has a quantitative approach, descriptive character, experimental design and cross-sectional. Its objective is to analyze the process of description for the representation of information about works of art in museum collections. Among its methodological procedures are individual in-depth interviews, as a method for data collection and guided technical visits. To achieve its purpose, the DOMUS ARTIUM; Museum of Salamanca; Art Nouveau and Art Deco Museum - Casa Lis; Salamanca Cathedral Archive; and the National Museum of Fine Arts of Cuba collections are characterized and description practices of the selected institutions are analyzed, through the websites and databases. Description behavior lacks the required level of depth. Therefore, languages, norms and conceptual models for description must be used coherently and evolve even further. Application of semantic and interdisciplinary methods is extremely important to achieve a more precise and logically structured sense of information, to reveal new knowledge and to offer interoperable data on museological collections, which can be retrieved efficiently, thus for obtaining a greater depth in the study of works of art.
