In an increasingly connected society, the production of digital content on social networks, blogs and other platforms has shown exponential growth in terms of information production. This study presents how the use of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques can contribute to the process of ranking in search engines and aims to identify which Search Engine Optimization techniques should be applied to obtain better relevance in search engines. Considering the lack of dedicated research between the two themes, a literature review was used as methodology, with the purpose of contextualizing the current research scenario between both themes. It was noticed that all the selected studies applied Search Engine Optimization techniques in digital informational environments. We conclude that Search Engine Optimization techniques, when applied to digital information environments, can bring several benefits to these digital environments, such as: improving visibility, ranking in search engines and transforming these environments more and more relevant in search engines, thus facilitating and contributing to information retrieval on the Web.
