This article discusses the implementation of digital curation to be achieved by an Institution. It evidences the purposes of digital preservation and digital curation for the benefit of an institution. It characterizes the digital object and discusses digital curation in the context of changes that occur in its environment. It identifies documents that are references in the context of the implementation of digital curation and it presents the digital curation environment from the perspective of its business activities, in order to support the planning of digital curation in a memory institution. It recommends implementing digital curation as a business function of the memory institution, by specifying and developing the business activities which are necessary for its functioning, to be carried out gradually, observing OAIS (ISO 14721), ACTDR (ISO 16363) and maturity models. In support of this strategy, it presents a set of digital curation activities, aligned with ACTDR and OAIS.
