The first ideas and proposals to create a Journal focused on publications of studies on Jean Piaget's theory emerged in 2007 at GEPEGE - Study and Research Group in Genetic Epistemology and Education of the Faculty of Philosophy and Sciences (FFC) of São Paulo State University (Unesp) - who critically evaluated the proposal, recognizing the need and value of such an undertaking and, on the other hand, the difficulties in carrying it out.

The initial objective of the Journal, and which remains until today, is to stimulate and disseminate scientific and epistemological discussions and productions, serving as a vehicle for the exchange of information, dissemination of studies, results of theoretical and experimental research. The idea was, from the beginning, to disseminate national and international scientific production related to Genetic Psychology and Genetic Epistemology.

The proposal was innovative, as there was not - and still does not exist - in Brazil and Latin America, apart from Schème, a Journal specialized in this field of study, particularly focused on the areas of education, philosophy, psychology and inter and multidisciplinary topics. Over time and in a moment of maturity of GEPEGE, the proposal gained more body and the project came to fruition in 2008, the year of publication of the first edition of the Journal.

In this sense, since its inception, Schème has been committed not only to the advancement of Piagetian research, but also to the scientific and epistemological debate. Therefore, it is constantly open to scientific and epistemological analysis, comparative analysis and critical analysis, including Piagetian theory. With this, she intends to continue what Piaget himself practiced with his collaborators and also with his critics.

Today, the scope of the Journal expands to productions that link Genetic Epistemology and Genetic Sociology, as we understand that for Piaget the main pillars for the advancement of Genetic Epistemology are found in psychological and sociological research. Due to the creation and strengthening of new pedagogical experiences committed to Piagetian ideas, the Journal Shème proposes to stimulate dialogue between the producers of these innovative experiences and the academy.

Thus, we intend that Piaget's scientific thought and practice remain alive and contribute decisively to the advancement and transformation of knowledge and society.
