Abstract

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights created by the United Nations has been a significant advance for humanity in seeking to protect fundamental rights and guarantee human dignity worldwide for all individuals. Despite notable advances in guaranteeing these rights, humanity still has a long way to go. In 2023, there will still be news of violations of these rights in different areas and levels of severity - and Brazil is also part of this reality. We also discuss the universal nature of the Declaration. Psychology has much to contribute to the subject, including developing instruments capable of measuring attitudes about human rights and finding ways to promote them. Using international databases, we searched for instruments that measured attitudes about human rights through the Declaration's content. The Human Rights Questionnaire stood out for its efforts to reflect the target content. The conclusion is that there is an urgency in creating an instrument for the Brazilian scenario capable of evaluating attitudes toward human rights.
