Abstract

The present work aims at a brief reflection on the importance of working with oral legends in the educational context of northeastern Pará. In particular, the Curupira myth in the teaching and learning of Spanish as a foreign language (ELE) in the municipality of Curuçá-PA. We take into account that this supernatural being, protector of the forests (MAGALHÃES, 1975), assumes an extremely relevant role in the daily lives of the people who inhabit the rural interior, being the object of admiration and interest of children, young people and adults. The work is guided by authors such as Cascudo (2008), Magán (2010), Cosson (2021; 2014), Colombres (2010; 2016; 2017), Fernández (2005), among others, with whom we will delve into the heart of the enigmatic and fascinating Amazon, paddling through the mighty waters of the popular tradition of the region. Thus, we will present some guidelines for working this literature in the classroom, based on oral narratives about Curupira. All of this as a way of providing ELE students with the possibility of broadening and deepening their knowledge of that foreign language, based on their cultural reality, in addition to strengthening it, so that our myths and legends do not disappear
