This article aims, through a literature review and through a quali-quantitative approach, to reflect on the professional life and on the important legacy of Frederick Wilfrid Lancaster for Librarianship and Information Science. His main contributions and recognition in these two areas of knowledge are presented, in addition to a brief bibliometric analysis of the citations that bear his name in Brazilian scientific production. It should be noted that his contributions to Science reverberate until today, evidencing his important and undeniable legacy, always being revisited in analyzes and studies until the present day.
