THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM AS A TOOL IN DISSEMINATING KNOWLEDGE OF PARALYMPIC SPORT

Abstract

The Volunteering Program has been present since the first edition of the Paralympic Games. Considering the need about the Volunteering Program in Paralympic international sporting events, such as the Youth Parapan American Games, and thinking of it as a tool to disseminate knowledge about Paralympic sport, we aimed to describe the selection and placement in the functions about the Volunteering Program developed by the Faculty of Physical Education of the State University of Campinas in partnership with the Brazilian Paralympic Committee, and discuss their importance in the coaching of professionals in the area of Physical Education and Sports. This study is an experience report and has a descriptive character with a qualitative approach. The conception of an Organizing Volunteers of Committee, promoted the selection of 270 volunteers included between total and partial categories. During the event there were exchanges between the sports modalities that the volunteers participated, the initial contact and preparation of the Volunteers for the Sports Event brings them information about the Paralympic movement in Brazil and in the world, providing a specific learning about the paralympic sport. We believe that this experience contributes to the training of volunteers through experiences and the possibility of new professional contacts.
