Abstract

Down's syndrome is a genetic anomaly that causes chromosomal disorder, also called simple chromosome 21 trisomy, which alters the child's normal growth and development course. Down syndrome can occur in three different ways 1) Chromosome 21 trisomy; 2) Mosaicism; and 3) Robertsonian translocation, obtaining in its phenotypes as the main characteristics ligament laxity and generalized hypotonia. In this context, the objective of the study was to analyze the benefits of early stimulation in Physiotherapy for children with Down syndrome, through a literature review. Thus, studies indicate that the child with DS who receives the early stimulus within or even before the age of four months has a more favored neuropsychomotor development (DNPM) than the child who does not benefit from early physical therapy, obtaining thus, within their capacities and realities, adaptations of typical postures, reducing the delay of the DNPM, increasing neural plasticity, interaction and perception of space-environment, organizing the baby favorably with stimuli of visual, sound, tactile, ligament and muscle aspects , providing these children with functional independence, providing security and a greater and better quality of life.
