Abstract

Working in a cooperative is challenging, because in addition to carrying out the activities that the cooperative proposes, it must also carry out its management. When considering the recycling sector, the challenge is even greater, since the people who make up these enterprises are usually on the margins of society and have immediate demands, which require simplified processes for the cooperative to achieve its objectives. In this context, the present work aims to verify the factors that led to the reduction of turnover in a cooperative of waste pickers in the south of Rio Grande do Sul. For this purpose, the cooperative was analyzed for six years. The cooperative is an enterprise incubated at INEESOL at FURG, and over the years of incubation it has gone through several situations, from the improvement of administrative and financial management processes, and of the productive sector. The results point out that the reasons why, currently, rotation in the cooperative is practically non-existent, are: an increase in income of more than 500%, resulting in a better quality of life for both the cooperative members and their families; access to all financial information and; effective participation in decision-making processes.
