In this text, the objective is to present a brief reflection on Brazil-China relations, guided by two questions: 1. Can the relations between the two countries be understood from the point of view of imperialism and dependence? 2. Would it be possible to envision a new round of dependence with development via relations with the Asian country? In general terms, we will argue against the characterization of Brazil-China relations as one of dependence; nor will we approach China as an imperialist power, we will only indicate that imperialist practices certainly characterize Chinese expansionism. In addition, we will argue that relations with the Asian country are inserted in the current phase of dependence, marked by the dissociation between dependence and (industrial) development. Finally, the possibility of reversing this situation will be considered through the idea of disconnection.
