ABSTRACT: Terrorism is a phenomenon that is always present and studied in International Relations. However, the attacks on the World Trade Center in the United States, on September 11, 2001, inaugurated the transnational form of this violent action, which had negative consequences for the Brazilian economy. The general objective of this article is to understand the phenomenon of terrorism in international society. The specific objectives are to conceptualize terrorism, to identify the consequences of the September 11 attacks on contemporary International Relations and on the Brazilian economy. This exploratory, qualitative, and bibliographic research has used the hypothetical-deductive method, offering means to construct, methodologically, the analysis of the theme and the formation of a conjecture to answer the research problem, that is, to what extent the attack of the 09/11has brought consequences for the Brazilian economy?
