Abstract

This article aims mainly to comprehend which are the impacts of the US bases overseas in the host countries. In Uunderstanding how the hegemonic system of overseas bases of the U. S. emerged, and what are the typologies of bases and their geographical concentration today, it is possible to perceive that the impacts of the bases occur in the great majority in countries of the Global South. The overseas bases directly affect the communities closest to the bases, causing various damages. Therefore, it is questionable to what extent the sovereignty of the host country is actually respected. The hegemony of the United States' overseas base system is an example of the core-periphery relationship where bases politics overlap the rights and freedoms of the communities from the host country. It is concluded that expansion of bases of the type "lily pads" can further aggravate this scenario.
