The objective of this text is to discuss the geoeconomic reasons and, above all, the crisis of global capitalism for Latin America. The exhaustion of the commodity cycle, which is part of this process of structural crisis of global capitalism, made explicit the limits of extractivism and neo-extractivism, which has been configured, in recent decades, as a development strategy for the region, adopted by both conservatives and reformist governor. This context raises the need for new development strategies for Latin American countries, which take account of social inclusion and the environmental crisis, even more so as the region, in recent years, has shown marked political instability and low economic growth.
