Kant’s philosophy of history collects the legacy of the Enlightenment context and at the same time is an expression of the systematic structure of critical knowledge. Therefore, the reflection on history includes many themes ranging from moral freedom to the progress of culture and the realization of law, while providence and the nature’s project guide its course. History is thus fully integrated into the argumentative structure of the critical system. In this essay we intend to consider only the relationship between regulatory knowledge and historical progress. This immediately indicates the partiality of this perspective, which nevertheless allows us to highlight the centrality of three main features in the elaboration of the first Criticism, namely, ideality, scheme, history of reason.
