Resumo

The objective of our article is to make explicit the existence of a neoliberal common sense in Brazil, to discuss its historical conformation and specificities from past to present. A dialogue between Gramsci and Vieira Pinto is proposed. To do so, this article is divided into three sections. In the first section, intitled Ordoliberalism, a prelude to neoliberalism, we propose an analogous relation between ordoliberalism and the Brazilian Fourth Republic, namely the context in which Vieira Pinto writes. Then, in the section The ingenuity of common sense, we discuss what is particularly ingenuous about common sense in greater theoretical depth, attempting to promote a dialogue between Vieira Pinto and Gramsci. In Under neoliberalism: “meritocracy” as ingenuous common sense, as the title suggests, we discuss the current presentation of this ingenuity, its present elements, and its situation of crisis. Finally, we present a conclusion corresponding to the discussion that the three sections have raised.
